Bougainvillea by Ximena Outon
About Ximena
Ximena (she/her) is one of our talented designers and the Sr. Creative Manager of Email at EC! She is passionate about art and design, travel, architecture, and has an affinity for learning new languages.
My Inspiration by Ximena
I’ve always loved abstract art and wanted to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month with a color that is highly representative of Mexico. The hot pink hue in my design is traditionally referred to as “Rosa Mexicano,” and it’s seen throughout art, architecture, embroidery, and regional blooms such as the bougainvillea (considered a traditional and representative flower of Mexico). – Ximena

Tigers and Flowers by Nicole Medina
About Nicole
Nicole is a Latina illustrator based in Philadelphia who likes to focus on biculturalism, inclusivity, and representation in her art. She approaches her work with bold color and detailed patterns to create dream-like illustrations and surreal imagery that tell a story with a sense of adventure.
My Inspiration by Nicole
Tigers and Flowers is a combination of both the fierce and the delicate. I wanted every piece of this imagery to fit together like a puzzle, giving it a pattern-like look. A pattern can be more than just a repeating design. It can tell stories and manifest inspiration. I like creating juxtapositions of subject matter in spaces you’d think they wouldn’t belong. It’s about connection among chaos. – Nicole

Butterfly Garden by Aby Cortes
About Aby
Aby’s lifelong love of creating and her passion for design have led her to be an Art Director for EC! Throughout her career, an important focus has been how beautiful art and design impact the way people interact with products. Aby aims to inspire people to see the world through her lens and find a little beauty in every day.
My Inspiration by Aby
Florals have long been my absolute favorite to design! There are so many beautiful ways to illustrate and represent them. Flowers are an artistic motif that speaks to just about everyone. For this piece, I added in flowers that have always felt very tied to Mexican culture, roses and bougainvillea, in a modern palette. In celebration of Latinx Heritage Month, I also wanted to include monarch butterflies. Not only have they long had spiritual significance in Mexican culture, but they have also become a widespread symbol used to advocate for immigrant rights. – Aby

Illustrating is a way for me to connect with a large community of people, including fellow Latinx individuals, and I wanted to design something fun and colorful that served to inspire others to dream and go after their goals.
